Please feel free to contact us, if you need any clarifications or explanations on this subject. Please be aware that Saudico Electronic Systems will not take any responsibilities and/or liabilities in the issues that are caused beyond its control.
Questions to ask when starting to troubleshoot
==============================
1. Does the site use POP3 server or SMTP?
2. Does the site use username and password?
3. Does the site use encryption for username and password?
4. Using the scripts provided in this documentation can I send and receive an email successfully?
5. Using Telnet can I send and receive email successfully?
6. Can I set up the email configuration in my test environment and send emails and receive emails successfully?
7. What type of firewall is configured on the server?
8. Is the port open for emails?
9. Can ping the server from the application server?
10. Is the mail server configured to allow relaying?

Configuration in OPERA
===============
OPERA > Configuration > Property Details > Delivery Method > General

1. Check to make sure that the email address is correct.
2. Check to see if the site uses authentication, if so confirm the username and
password.
3. Check to see if they use a standard 64 bit encryption for username and password. If
so ensure that the encrypted username and password is inputted into these fields.
4. Check the Server Name and make sure it is correct. It is at this point that you want
to ensure that you can ping the mail server. If the server is a POP3 or SMTP, you can
also try to add these in front of the server name.
Example: POP3.usmail3k3.us.micros.int

Telnet Testing
=========
How to Test SMTP Services Manually in Windows Server 2003
To test the SMTP service, follow these steps:
1. On a computer running Windows Server 2003, type Telnet at a command prompt, and then press ENTER.
2. At the telnet prompt, type set LocalEcho, press ENTER, and then type open <machinename> 25, and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
220 computername.microsoft.com ESMTP Server (Microsoft Exchange Internet Mail Service 5.5.2651.58) ready
3. Type helo me, and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
250 OK
4. Type mail from:email@domain.com, and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
250 OK - mail from <email@domain.com>
5. Type rcpt to:youremail@yourdomain.com, and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
250 OK - Recipient <youremail@yourdomain.com>
6. Type Data, and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
354 Send data. End with CRLF.CRLF
7. Type Subject:This is a test, and then press ENTER two times.
8. Type Testing, and then press ENTER.
9. Press ENTER, type a period (.), and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
250 OK
10. Type quit, and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
221 Closing Port / Mail queued for delivery
If the site has an encrypted username and password, they most likely have an
authentication setup for the email server. To troubleshoot this do the
following:
1. On a computer running Windows Server 2003, type Telnet at a command prompt,
and then press ENTER.
2. At the telnet prompt, type set LocalEcho, press ENTER, and then type open
<machinename> 25, and then press ENTER.
The output resembles the following:
220 computername.microsoft.com ESMTP Server (Microsoft Exchange Internet
Mail Service 5.5.2651.58) ready
3. At this point type in auth login, you might be prompted by letters or it might prompt
you to type in your username, at this point type in the encrypted username.
Press Enter
4. The system will not prompt you for your password or give you another prompt with
letters, type in you encrypted password.
Press Enter
Message should come back as successful
5. Type in helo me and proceed with the rest of the steps

Questions for site and to complete research
============================
1. Can I set up the email configuration in my test environment and send emails and
receive emails successfully?
Answer: This is important to test and record. If support can successfully send emails
then we can assume that there is an issue with the server communicating to the mail
server.

2. What type of firewall is configured on the server?
Answer: The actual type of firewall does not matter but support needs to make sure
PORT 25 is open and not being blocked by the firewall.

3. Is the mail server configured to allow relaying?
Answer: The site has to confirm this for you and server must allow relaying.

There is a file in d:\micros\opera\operaias\webtemp directory, in this folder there is a file
called mfsendmail20040915.xml. There will a file for each day that an email is sent. You can
open this file and it will show any error messages that you are getting when sending the
email. If you select this file and get a “Page cannot be displayed”, you need to copy the
log.xsl from the runtimes and paste them in this directory.

Are you annoyed by remote connections, where the entire OPERA screen is being refreshed with every click and it takes ages to continue working?

Here is a little trick to make OPERA noticeable quicker on remote connections (especially RDP):

When connected to the remote server or workstation where you want to open OPERA, prior to logging into OPERA, click on START -> Settings -> Control Panel

Find the “JInitiator” icon

You will see a white box on the first tab (“Basic”) called “Java Runtime Parameters”

Enter the following line in there:
-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true

This will force Java to only refresh the piece of OPERA screen, which actually has changed and not the entire screen.

As per Opera development team, this change is harmless and will have no negative impact on the Operation of OPERA.

This is also one of the solution for some refresh issue, not only for remote desktop connection, but also for some client/workstation connection.

Mouse Free Opera

In our ongoing pursuit to make Opera more keyboard friendly, I thought I should enlighten you all (specially those who are Fidelio V6 Users), on some of the ways we can assist users move around Opera without the mouse.

Right Click Menu in Billing and AR Menus
Some of you may have heard a comment from Front Desk users about not being able to open the context or ‘right click’ menu in Cashiering without the mouse. However this is not entirely true. If you press Shift + F10, Opera will open this menu and then the user can select the appropriate command without touching the mouse. Whilst I have only seen it working when Window 1 is selected in Quad View and Split View, in Full View then user can easily operate Billing without a mouse.

This same right click work around is possible in the AR Screen allowing Account staff to apply/unapply payments etc without a mouse

This is also the same for the Profile Search Screen. By pressing the Shift + F10 keys you will be able to bring up the Modify Search Grid Option (Provided you are on the correct version)

Enhanced Options
To avoid duplicate keys and to increase navigation speed to Option Menu items Opera has introduced the Enhanced Options functionality. Pressing Ctrl + T will ac tivate Enhanced Options. Then the user simply needs to type the first few letters of the option they want. For example Ctrl + T and then press Dep to bring up the Deposit option.

Registration Card from Reservation Screen
If this is even too many keys, there are some other options. For example to print a registration card from the Reservation screen, the user does not have to go into Options and then select Registration Card. Simply pressing
Alt + R in the main reservation screen will print out the default registration card. The default needs to be configured under Application Parameters. If not, the Opera will show the menu for which registration card the user would like printed.

Profile Screen from Reservation Screen
To access the Profile screen from the Reservation Screen press Alt + .

Info Folio from Billing Screen
Another handy one is to generate an Info Folio from Cashiering. There is no need to go into FolioàPreview, simply press Alt + I in the Billing Window.

If you know of any more, please let me know.

OPERA SMT backup failing with ora-01555

Problem :

Opera SMT backup failed with ORA-01555: snapshot too old: rollback segment number 19 with name "_SYSSMU19_255734752$" too small.

We faced the similar issue earlier but after running the export through data pump issue got resolved. Export completed successful in a very short time.

But in this property we are facing altogether different issues while running backup with the data pump.

Kindly please have a look on urgent basis.

Reply :

Reviewed the notes and the current situation is that the Export trough the SMT tool is not producing Ora-1555 anymore but not Compressing the files. If started manually all works fine.

If not already mentioned here: Please note that the (S)hema(M)anagement(T)ool is not a backup solution. It is used for schema maintenance and provides a backup solution. To have a proper backup you should ensure that the processors are stopped during the export.

Our suggested Backup solution is RMAN. Of course you can schedule the SMT export using the task scheduler. But as each installation is different we can only support the manual export.
You as an Oracle Partner should be able to setup a RMAN backup and troubleshoot the Windows Taskmanager. In most cases it is the "RUN with highest privileges" checkbox or a unknown path for the ZIP/7ZIP exe when started with a different user in Task scheduler
